FAQ’s for Microdermabrasion

Q: Why should I consider Microdermabrasion?

Approximately every 28 days we create a new layer of skin. As new cells form they push their way to the surface. As we age this process slows down leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance. If the skin does not shed properly, dead cells settle on the surface causing clogged pores, a bumpy uneven texture, breakouts and a dull appearance.

Q: How does it work?

This gentle exfoliation is performed with a jet of fine mineral crystals passing over the skin’s surface by creating a gentle vacuum. The crystals lay on the skin along with the dead/damaged skin cells.
The crystals gently exfoliate approximately 20-25 microns of dead skin cells of the outermost layer (stratum corneum). Once removed it reveals one’s own fresher, younger looking skin beneath.

Q:  Who can benefit from a microdermabrasion treatment?

Men and women of any skin type or colour. Anyone with aged, blemished, congested, flaky, dry, thickened, dull or sun damaged skin will experience a refreshed and rejuvenated complexion. Unneven skin tones and texture or Blotchy complexions will also be improved

Q: How long does it take?

The actual treatment usually takes 15-40 minutes, depending on the area. The treatment is applied after cleansing the skin and a moisturizing sun block is applied following treatment. You should always use sunblock to extend the effectiveness of your treatments.

Q: Is Microdermabrasion only for my face?

NO! Most common areas are the face, neck, chest, shoulders, back, hands, knees and elbows. Any body area can be treated.

Q: Are there any side effects?

You may experience a slight tingling and the skin may feel tighter after treatment. Some people may have some flaking occur. To minimize the flaking it is important to cleanse frequently with the use of good home care products as advised by Carolyn for optimal results. It is very important not to exercise after treatment where perspiration is created. Carolyn will tell you when you can resume your exercise routine.

Q:  Can I go to the beach after my treatment?

It is important to realize that you have taken off the outermost layer of the skin, which is also its protection, so this is not the time to go to the beach. Be careful with your skin a few days after the microdermabrasion treatment: don’t do vigorous exercise and don’t expose your skin to the sun. Carolyn suggests you wear a gentle physical sunscreen, even if it is a cloudy day.
